Consciousness

You know that voice in your head that talks to you on repeat? My whole life I have thought that voice is me. I listened to and identified with it. When people talk about “choosing to be happy”, “choosing how they feel” this is the concept that is often missed in that discussion but is the golden key many are looking for.

Who is the voice? Who are you?

All you really need to know is that YOU ARE NOT THE VOICE IN YOUR HEAD. Think about it, if you are listening to a voice, there is no way that voice is you, YOU are the one listening. You are the conscious stream of thought that is listening to the voice. The voice you hear is your subconscious mind and you are the consciousness listening to the voice.

The importance of dissociation

The importance of dissociating from the subconscious mind becomes most important when “the voice” talks of negatively. Sometimes, that voice can be mean, it can be negative, it can say things that are not true. For so long we have confused these negative thoughts as our own, but these are the subconscious mind. You can choose how you interpret the voice, be skeptical of what it says, ask yourself if what you are hearing is true.

What is the goal?

The goal is to become conscious. To recognize the voice in the head as being a separate entity from who we are. In doing so, you get to listen to this voice and choose how to interpret what you hear. You get to choose what is right and what is wrong to you. You cannot change what the subconscious mind says, but you can change how you interpret and react to that information.

Finding Peace

The moment you hear “the voice” and recognize it as being separate from yourself, that is consciousness, you have succeeded. From here, you will begin to find yourself. From here, you will find the peace and the positivity that is already within.
